New Year’s Eve 2024 in Cornwall

Where are the best places to see in New Year 2025 in Cornwall? Here are a few of our favourites (with honourable mentions for Looe, Padstow and the Watering Hole in Perranporth).

St Ives at New Year

Our local town is the New Year capital of Cornwall, attracting visitors from all over the country. The streets are closed to traffic in the evening, so you can dance around the streets in your best fancy dress. Everyone makes an effort, and most families and groups come up with creatively themed costumes. The early part of the evening is super family-friendly, with street food and live music. If you are here for the long haul, make sure you head for Harbour Beach in time for the midnight firework display.

New Year’s Eve in Newquay

Cornwall’s party town knows how to celebrate. Like St Ives, New Year revellers in Newquay put on their best fancy dress and head into the streets; and as you’d expect, there’s plenty going on inside the many bars, pubs and clubs. At midnight, everyone emerges to watch the fireworks over Towan Beach.

Celebrate New Year in Truro

The Cornish city has a choice of sophisticated soirees for the New Year including the spectacular Cathedral Masquerade and a black tie dinner at The Alverton Hotel. No tickets? That’s not a problem in this lively little city: enjoy the atmosphere in Truro’s many pubs and bars before congregating in the centre for the midnight fireworks. Here with kids? There’s an earlier firework display at 7:30 (view it from Lemon Quay).

Falmouth for New Year

There are masked balls, live music and parties all over vibrant Falmouth for New Year 2025, and the streets are filled with lights and revellers. Falmouth is home to one of Cornwall’s most impressive firework displays, as they’re set off from Pendennis Castle on the headland, lighting up the whole harbour and town.

The morning after: celebrating New Year’s Day in Cornwall

Resist the urge to fight your fuzzy head indoors, and step outside into that invigorating sea air. The brisk coastal breezes will soon blow away any traces of hangover, and you’ll be ready for that full Cornish breakfast in no time.

Like Good Friday, New Year’s Day is the time for a family walk in Cornwall. The coast paths and beaches are busy with folk enjoying the fresh air and exercise before popping back to the pub for a hearty lunch. If the weather’s not looking appealing, visitor attractions including the Eden Project, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth and Tate St Ives are open on New Year’s Day.

New Year’s Day Dips

If you really want to feel invigorated on New Year’s Day, join in with a cold water dip. There’s a fun New Year’s Day Dip at Penzance’s Art Deco lido, Jubilee Pool, or you can take the plunge into the sea at Newquay, Looe or Gylly Beach in Falmouth. (Follow the RNLI guidance for open water swimming.)
