If you’re looking for somewhere where you can truly relax on your Cornish holiday, try Mawgan Porth. This is an intimate little resort set on a beautiful beach in North Cornwall, close to Newquay in distance but a million miles away in spirit. Mawgan Porth may have its share of loyal followers but, as the sandy beach is so big at low tide, you’ll always have a good bit of space to yourself.
The beach is popular with families and is also dog-friendly all year. It is a good surfing spot, while non-surfers can enjoy a swim in this lifeguarded bay (seasonal cover only). After a day on the beach, there is a choice of places to eat and drink, both in Mawgan Porth and in the inland village of St Mawgan, which is just under two miles away.
Mawgan Porth is sometimes known as “Hollywood-on-Sea” thanks to the number of celebrities snapping up properties in this gorgeous part of Cornwall. David Beckham, Kate Winslet, Stanley Tucci and Jason Statham are among the celebs spotted on the beach at Mawgan Porth. Jason Momoa is among the latest A-listers to buy a place here: if the beach is good enough for Aquaman, that’s a pretty good recommendation.
As well as the beautiful and relatively secluded setting, there is another reason why the rich and famous move to Mawgan Porth. Newquay Airport is just two and a half miles away, making this a super-easy place for a sneaky weekend break.
Mawgan Port is also a straightforward place to reach by road. Leave the A30 at the A39, following signs to the airport. After this, look out for the B3276 to Mawgan Porth. The closest mainline railway station is Par, where you can pick up the branch line train to Newquay and take a taxi for the final six miles.
