Hayle
Hayle
If you’re looking for a place to stay in Cornwall that’s vibrant without being crowded, has plenty of places to eat and drink, and provides easy access to a beautiful Hayle beach, then Hayle is an excellent choice. Specifically, its historic North Quay area is definitely worth a look.
North Quay was once part of Hayle’s busy harbour, serving the mines and the local engineering industry, and was also home to numerous smaller works. Over the years the industries declined, and Hayle’s quays became quieter, mainly used by smaller boats, fishermen and walkers. The focus shifted to those glorious Hayle beaches and the estuary’s more conventionally pretty places.
Today, that’s all changing. North Quay is being transformed into a stylish residential area, complete with waterside restaurants, plazas and commercial areas. Right now, we catch North Quay at a turning point: part contemporary development, part sand dunes and old buildings. The blend of Hayle past and present has made North Quay a uniquely charming area, and of course, the views across the estuary are stunning.
Hayle, Cornwall is easy to get to. It’s just off the A30 (take the Hayle exit at the “Marks & Spencer’s roundabout”), and North Quay is towards the west end of the long road through town. It also has a mainline railway station, which is a three-minute drive from North Quay.
