In this edition of our Owner Stories Behind the Stay series, we speak with the owners of Westholme about their experience of letting with Cornish Escapes. Why did you decide to let a holiday home in Cornwall?
Cornwall is a special place for us. We have holidayed in various parts of the county for many years. Cornwall and St Ives in particular have everything for a fantastic holiday: superb beaches, outstanding countryside and simply amazing local produce. The sea around Cornwall is perfect for swimming, body boarding and surfing, and what makes it extra special is the Cornish people – so friendly and welcoming.
It’s always been a dream of ours to invest in a holiday let in Cornwall, so we made it happen! Owning a holiday let not only allows us to provide a lovely place for visitors to stay in St Ives, it also gives us a property as a legacy for our children.
Westholme looks beautiful. What interior design and furnishing tips do you have for new owners?
Our top tip for anyone carrying out a similar project is to think about what makes a comfortable stay. We drew on our experience of staying in holiday rental properties and focussing on how best we can make sure our guests have a memorable stay in Westholme.
The small things make the difference, such as a quality shower, a well-equipped kitchen and a good-size television for relaxing in the evening. Our aim is to offer an exceptional home-from-home experience.
We worked with a local designer to create a relaxed and comfortable feel, with high-quality fixtures and fittings. Westholme has a light and airy feel, giving our guests a sense of space.

We researched the market extensively, because we need our investment to return a steady profit. We learned that a holiday let agency has to know both the geographical area and the local rental trends.

When we were choosing an agency, they presented us with a solid business plan that included market facts, projections and forecasts, putting our minds at rest. This formed the basis of a tangible plan that we keep reviewing with them as we work in partnership.

In your own words, what makes Westholme such a unique holiday home for guests?
Westholme is designed to be a home-from-home with added comfort and luxury. We want our guests to feel relaxed and well-looked-after as soon as they open the door.
Attention to detail is so important. There are quality beds for a good night’s sleep after a day of Cornish adventures, and a power shower in the master bedroom for extra freshness. The kitchen is equipped with lots of the latest gadgets to help guests prepare the excellent local produce.
The apartment is set in the beautiful Tregenna Estate, just a short walk from St Ives and its world-class beaches. At Westholme, our guests have the space to enjoy being away from home – and we hope that they will come back again!
