Dog Friendly Escapes to St Ives

It’s official – we are a nation of dog lovers. They aren’t just pets, they’re members of our family. But taking them on holiday with us can be difficult. At Escape to St Ives we realise this because we’re not only locals, we’re dog owners ourselves.

Bamaluz Beach has no restrictions all year round. This small rocky, sandy cove sits in the heart of Downalong, the old fishing quarter in St Ives. It’s a great spot to rock pool with your four-legged friend. Other beaches that are dog friendly all year round are Lambeth Walk Beach, just behind the Lifeboat Station. Then there’s the beautiful sandy expanse of Porthkidney. But from 1st of October, all beaches are open to dogs, even the iconic Harbour Beach.

Dog friendly food and drink

After a run on the beach, you can head into the town and explore the cobbled streets of Historic St Ives. There are plenty of award-winning establishments in St Ives that welcome well-behaved dogs, like the famous Sloop Inn pub or The Balcony with its amazing harbour views. There’s The Loft which is situated in the artist’s quarter with its lovely sun terrace. We also love the famous BBQ, Burgers and Beers served at The Hub. They might even have some tasty dog treats behind the counter.

Longer walkies in Cornwall

Further afield, there are yet more beaches and coast paths for dog walking at Hayle, Gwithian and around Carbis Bay. If you fancy a day out, the Eden Project is a dog friendly option. There you can find a number of enclosed biomes with indoor rainforests. You can’t take your dog inside the biomes, but there are still plenty of pathways to trek in the Outdoor Gardens.

Or you could get muddy at Tehidy Country Park – the largest wooded area in Cornwall. It’s just a 20 minute drive from St Ives, with long walks in the woods and over 250 acres of woodland to explore with your canine companion, with a fab cafe right in the heart of the woods.

Down on the south coast is The Seal Sanctuary in Gweek. The sanctuary is the permanent home to injured, orphaned or sick seals that wash up on nearby beaches. You can learn about animal conservation and get up close to the ‘Dogs of the Sea’.

Dog Friendly Cottages in St Ives

After a day with your pooch, you’ll need to relax. We have a wide range of pet friendly cottages, houses and apartments from the quirky to the spacious. For example, there’s Sea Echo, a holiday apartment with sea views, or the quaint and centrally located Maranatha. In the countryside on the outskirts of St Ives Whistler’s Rest is a cosy stone cottage overlooking the Moors. Or coming soon is Island Wastrel – a magical sub-tropical oasis perched on the shoreline of Porthgwidden Beach in the heart of St Ives.

Whether it’s just you and your pooch, couples or large families, at Escape to St Ives we’ve got you and your dog covered. Just remember, leave only paw prints.
